Madekwe is a British-Nigerian mixed race child, was born to a family in South London. Both her parents have both been English. She was raised on a south London community estate, where she attended The Brit School at age fourteen. The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art was where she received a BA degree in acting. While at the academy, she performed in several stage productions such as the King Henry V playing Princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights portraying Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her acting career through a short film called Storm Damage. The actress has been an actor for Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's first film appearance was Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream (2007), alongside Colin Farrell. Her success resulted in her being cast as Elisha in a single-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in the six-episode series Trexx and Flipside as Ollie. In 2008, Madekwe landed Bambi as the main character in ITV2's comedy Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe starred as the lead character on How to Lose Friends And Alienate Others, a comedy that was released in 2008. A couple of her credits on stage include Little Sweet Thing (by Roy Williams) and Flight Path (by David Watson).
Madekwe was chosen to play Ashley Davenport in the ABC show The Beautiful Life. The two-episode show aired only for two weeks on The CW and then it was cancelled. Ashley Davenport was her role in ABC's drama Revenge. In late May 2013, it was revealed that Madekwe who had been a series regular in the past two seasons, had decided to quit the show following a guest appearance in the premiere episode of the season's new episode. She starred as Tituba in the TV show Salem from 2014 to 2016. Then, in June of 2012 Madekwe got married to her long-time partner, actor Iddo Goldberg. Apart from Secret Diary of a Call Girl They have also collaborated together on Salem and he had an appearance with her on that show.

Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into an extended family of. Ashley Leggat joined Roy and Patty as well her older siblings - Brett, Todd and Bram as well as Rob.
