
Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass in Athens on October 3, 1962 to David Lee Thomas Bass (American U.S. Army sergeant) and Vassiliki "Voula"Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek, Basilike Papademetriou), a contestant in the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his younger sister, and also a drummer. Lee was only two years old when his father accompanied his family on a trip to the United States. Lee received his first drum sticks at age four and his first drum set as a teenager. Lee dropped out of high school in order to pursue music as a career, beginning with Suite 19, a L.A.-based club band. In his teen years was listening to Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, AC/DC and Sweet. John Bonham and Tommy Aldridge were his main drumming influences.
